For U.S. shoppers. Prices checked September 21, 2026. All amounts are in USD.

Electric wheelchairs can cost hundreds to several thousand dollars, depending on the model, configuration, and support included. The five selected Tivaro configurations below have advertised prices from $369 to $1,799 before additional discounts and applicable tax. These are specific retail examples, not an industry average or the limits of the U.S. market.

A useful budget includes the chair you need, the equipment supplied with it, and expenses that may arise after delivery. Start by comparing exact configurations, then check the final checkout total and the terms that apply if the chair does not meet your needs.

What are current electric wheelchair prices?

The table below provides five Tivaro price examples. Each price applies to the configuration named in that row; different batteries or versions can change the total.

Price snapshot: September 21, 2026. Prices are taken from the linked product pages and the corresponding configuration data. They exclude additional coupon discounts, applicable tax, and optional purchases. Prices, stock, and promotions can change. Confirm whether a quoted chair weight includes all batteries and accessories before planning transport.

For wider-market context, WHILL listed its Model F at $2,499, while FOLD & GO listed its MagSHOCK in Turquoise at a sale price of $2,895 on the same date. These examples show why a single “average electric wheelchair price” can be misleading: the products, configurations, and services are not identical.

If you need custom seating or specialized controls, request a quote for that complete setup before comparing it with a standard retail model.

What makes one electric wheelchair more expensive than another?

Weight and transport requirements

Portability can be worth paying for when someone loads the chair into a vehicle frequently. Compare folded dimensions, the weight of the complete chair, and the heaviest part the person loading it will handle.

For example, the checked EW5001 and EW5004 prices differ by $67, while their listed weights are 64 lb and 33 lb respectively. That gives a buyer a concrete trade-off to investigate. The seats, battery configurations, and other specifications also differ, so weight alone should not decide the purchase.

Use the electric wheelchair dimensions guide to check the user, home, and vehicle before committing to a model.

Battery configuration

Check the number and type of batteries included at the advertised price. A price shown for a single-battery version should be compared with that exact configuration, rather than a different version's longest stated range.

Ask for the price and availability of a compatible replacement battery and charger. If you are considering a second battery, confirm how the model uses it and whether it is included or purchased separately. Buying an extra battery immediately and replacing a worn battery later are different budget decisions.

Seating, adjustability, and controls

Features such as an adjustable seat height, a different backrest, or additional control options can affect which model meets your needs. Decide which features you will use regularly, and confirm them for the exact version you are ordering.

A higher price does not establish clinical suitability. People who need individualized seating, pressure management, or specialized controls should include a professional assessment in their purchasing process.

Service and parts

Ask what happens if the chair needs attention: who diagnoses the problem, where repairs take place, which parts are available, and who pays for labor or transport. Request the written warranty terms for the frame, electronics, and battery separately. A headline warranty duration does not describe every component's coverage.

What should an electric wheelchair budget include?

An ownership budget combines the purchase total with optional equipment and any future service or replacement expenses. There is no single annual maintenance figure that applies to every wheelchair.

Cost item What to check before buying
Chair and selected configuration Exact model, battery option, included equipment, and price after any eligible discount
Tax and delivery Applicable tax, delivery eligibility, and any optional delivery service
Accessories Items actually needed, compatibility, and whether they are already included
Battery and charger Compatible replacement prices, availability, and any labor or shipping charges
Maintenance and repairs Service arrangements, parts pricing, labor, and warranty exclusions
Transport equipment Whether your existing vehicle and loading arrangement work with the chair
Financing APR, fees, number of payments, and total amount payable if using a payment plan
Returns Eligibility, packaging requirements, freight charges, and possible deductions

Choose a planning period, such as one or three years, and request quotes for the expenses relevant to that period. Keep unquoted future expenses marked as unknown; treating them as zero can make a budget look more certain than it is.

Budget formula: chair price after eligible discounts + applicable tax + delivery charges + selected accessories + estimated service and replacement costs + financing charges, if any.

Return-related expenses are a separate contingency, incurred only if the circumstances arise.

Are shipping and returns included in the price?

Tivaro's shipping policy states that standard shipping is included for eligible orders within its supported delivery area in the 48 contiguous United States. Confirm that your address and order qualify before purchasing.

Free outbound shipping does not mean every return is free. At the time of checking, Tivaro's refund policy specified a $250 combined outbound-and-return freight charge for personal-reason returns of electric mobility devices, plus a restocking deduction of up to 20%. Other deductions may apply under the policy. Confirmed defects, shipping damage, or Tivaro errors follow different terms, including coverage of authorized return freight and no restocking fee.

Measuring before ordering and keeping the original packaging can help you prepare for the purchase and any return process.

Does Medicare reduce the cost of an electric wheelchair?

Medicare Part B may cover a medically necessary power wheelchair when its requirements are met. These include a face-to-face examination, a written prescription, and Medicare-enrolled providers and equipment suppliers. Some power wheelchairs require prior authorization.

After the Part B deductible, you generally pay 20% of the Medicare-approved amount when the supplier accepts assignment. That amount is not necessarily the same as a retailer's advertised price. Confirm eligibility, supplier participation, and any required approval before purchasing. See Medicare's wheelchair and scooter coverage guidance.

A product appearing in this price guide does not establish Medicare coverage for that model or purchase.

How can you choose an electric wheelchair within your budget?

Start with the requirements a chair must meet: user fit, rated capacity, control access, daily routes, and transport arrangements. Then compare the final prices of the models that meet those requirements.

For each shortlisted chair, write down:

  1. The exact model and battery configuration.
  2. The final checkout price and equipment included.
  3. The dimensions and weight relevant to your home and vehicle.
  4. Replacement battery and service information.
  5. The applicable warranty and return terms.

This creates a comparison based on the cost of a usable setup. For the broader selection process, read What to Consider When Buying an Electric Wheelchair.

Frequently asked questions about electric wheelchair costs

Can I buy an electric wheelchair for under $1,000?

Yes. In the September 21, 2026 price snapshot above, the specified Tivaro EW1001, EW5001, EW5004, and single-battery EW6001 configurations were advertised below $1,000. Applicable tax, optional purchases, and later price changes can affect the final total. Check fit and configuration before choosing by price.

Does the advertised price include a battery and charger?

Check the exact product's included-items list and battery configuration. Confirm both the charger and the number of supplied batteries with the seller if anything is unclear. A photograph showing accessories does not by itself establish what is included in your order.

How much does a replacement electric wheelchair battery cost?

Request a quote for the manufacturer-approved battery that matches the exact model. Battery type, capacity, housing, connectors, shipping, and any installation requirements affect the purchase. A price for another wheelchair's battery is not a reliable quote for yours.

Does a monthly payment plan make a wheelchair cheaper?

A payment plan spreads the purchase over time. Compare the total amount payable, including interest and fees, with the cash price. Eligibility, promotional rates, and repayment terms depend on the provider and the offer available at checkout.

Compare the complete setup before ordering

The right budget starts with a wheelchair that fits your daily life and includes the equipment you need. Match each price to its configuration, verify any extra costs, and save the relevant specifications and policies with your order information.
